The name Joyería de Córdoba (Cordoba Jewellery) has been registered as a craft and industrial geographical indication, giving it protection across all 27 EU Member States. It is the first Spanish name registered under the EU system for craft and industrial geographical indications, which became operational on 1 December 2025 and is managed by the EUIPO.

This registration will protect the name against misuse, imitation and misleading commercial practices, as only producers operating within the municipality of Córdoba and complying with the registered product specification may use the protected designation. All production and packaging must take place within the defined geographical area, preserving the products’ authenticity and connection to Córdoba.

Córdoba’s jewellery-making tradition dates back more than a thousand years. Filigree techniques were documented during the 10th-century Caliphate of Córdoba, while later silversmiths’ guilds helped maintain specialist knowledge. Today, the city has a strong community of artisans, designers, manufacturers, workshops and training institutions, as well as the Parque Joyero de Córdoba, Europe’s largest specialised jewellery business centre.
